Popular Crafts for Kids
Spring is almost here, which means that spring break is just around the corner for kids across the country. WIth that in mind, you may already be thinking about some things you can do to occupy your child’s time during this break so that they continue to develop their creative thinking skills and don’t sit around staring at the TV all day long. Today, we’ll take a look at some popular and easy crafts that are appropriate for kids of all ages.

Bubble Wrap Easter Eggs
While this craft is perfect for toddlers, it can also provide unique dying fun with older children. With Easter on the way, your family may be looking forward to dying eggs, which usually involves a colorful mess. An easier way to have fun and reduce the clean up is to use ink pads and bubble wrap. Press the solvent ink pad onto a section of bubble wrap, lay the egg inside the wrap and gently pull the corners up around the egg. You can cover the entire surface of the egg in pink, purple, or blue dots, or you can make colorful combinations. Be careful not to move the egg around inside the bubble wrap or the ink may smear.
Ladybugs are thought to be good luck and are also good to have in your garden. They help rid your garden of crop-damaging aphids, mealybugs, and other destructive insects. Since you may already be thinking about the garden you want to plant this spring and the ladybugs you hope will be there, why not make paper ladybugs with your children? Gather the following materials:
- Circle puncher
- Colored paper
- White paper
- Googly eyes
- Black marker
Follow the directions to make your paper ladybugs and have fun crafting!
Frog Corner Bookmarks
For older children who are reading chapter books, bookmarks are a must to help them keep their place. While you can buy bookmarks almost anywhere, it’s more fun to make your own! With that in mind, we encourage you to help your child make a silly frog corner bookmark that marks the page with its tongue. You can follow this simple tutorial to make your own.
Balloons are already quite a bit of fun in their own right, but you can increase the fun factor with just a few additional materials. All you need are balloons, a straw, yarn, tape, and two chairs. Cut the yarn at about six feet in length and tie one end to one of the chairs. Thread the drinking straw onto the yarn and then tie the other end of the yarn to the other chair. Attach two pieces of tape to the straw. Inflate the balloon but don’t tie the opening. Hold it closed with your fingers to keep the air in while carefully attaching it to the strips of tape. Pull the balloon to one end of the yarn, let go, and watch it shoot off to the other end!
Many homes have decorative rocks in their landscaping, which offers an excellent opportunity for crafting fun. Look for ones that are smooth and flat. Depending on the age of your children, you can simply have fun painting colorful designs or you can create detailed pictures. Make sure to let the rocks dry completely before placing them back in the landscaping. One of the interesting aspects of painted rocks is that time and weather will slowly wear down the paint, which means that you can paint them all over again next spring.
